Hollick's story
Julian Crandall Hollick, an award-winning producer and writer of radio documentaries, has put together a six-part series about the Ganga River. The fourth part in the series is about the ‘mystery factor of Ganges, where he talks about tiny surprising details about the river and how the river is believed to have extraordinary powers. Ganges' self-purifying quality leads to oxygen levels 25 times higher than any other river in the world. This phenomenon is not completely explained. But it's probably because of the action of phages on the bacteria, that controls the bacterial population and the organic material in the river.
